New Dwelling, Architecture + Planning

Beauworth

Beauworth, South Downs National Park · New dwelling (unbuilt)

A new home for the Downs, shown in the round.

Beauworth is a new dwelling designed for a sensitive site at Beauworth, within the South Downs National Park. The project is currently unbuilt, and because it has not yet been realised in photography, we present it the way it was developed: as a film, moving through and around the house to show how it would sit in its landscape.

The design answers the Downs with restraint and proportion, natural materials, a considered roofscape, and elevations that respond to the topography and long views rather than fighting them. The aim is a home that feels settled in its setting from the day it is finished.

Designed and planned together

As with all our countryside work, the architecture and the planning strategy were developed in step. Every design decision was tested against National Park landscape and character policy as it was made, so the scheme is both an ambitious piece of architecture and a credible planning proposition.
