A net zero charging destination, planned for a National Park.
ReCharge One is a first-of-its-kind net zero electric-vehicle charging destination at Buriton, within the South Downs National Park. Far more than a charging stop, the scheme brings together 127 EV chargers, around 60 eco-lodges, a farm shop, a café and restored wildflower gardens, a destination designed to make the charging stop a reason to break the journey.
Delivering a scheme of this scale and ambition inside a National Park, alongside major road infrastructure, is exceptionally demanding in planning terms. Kerry Dames led the planning strategy, framing the proposal against national net zero and infrastructure policy and the Park's own landscape objectives.
An exemplar for low-carbon infrastructure
The project is conceived as a national exemplar, demonstrating that essential low-carbon infrastructure can be delivered in a sensitive landscape when design quality, biodiversity gain and place-making are put first. The watercolour visualisations capture that ambition: infrastructure as landscape, not against it.
